SORENSEN, Barbara, (Nee Gray) passed away peacefully at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital on Christmas Day at the age of 87. Born June 5, 1933, in Toronto, Canada she continued her education and earned her degree in nursing at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto in 1958 specializing in pediatrics. During her rotations at the hospital, she met and ultimately married Herb Sorensen D.D.S. in September of 1959. From 1967 to 1978 she raised her family in Lexington, Kentucky and Gainesville, Florida finally settling down in Midlothian, Virginia, in 1979 to continue as an outstanding example of what motherhood is about. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, tender smile, sparkling eyes and unwavering commitment to her family and friends. If she was not with her family or friends, doing a crossword puzzle or watching Jeopardy, she enjoyed traveling the world with Herb. Barb was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Herb. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Cornfield (Harry) and Jane Atkisson (Jeff); her son, Paul Sorensen (Robin); and her seven grandchildren, Emily and Sean Cornfield, Grace, Erin and Grant Klich, Katie Crisco and Ellie Sorensen; and countless friends she met over the years. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, because of Mom’s continual devotion for the medically compromised child, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to: Noah’s Children, 5875 Bremo Road, Suite 305, Richmond, Va. 23226 c/o Dr. Bob Archuleta.
