“We are sad to announce the passing of our mother Margaret Jane Banfield at home peacefully on Monday, February 20th, 2017 with family by her side. Margaret was born in Toronto on December 7th, 1923 (the youngest of 4 children) to Mary Edna (Mabee) and Ernest Andrew Warren. She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years Alan Banfield, her sisters Barbara, Leonora and brother Robert. She is remembered by her surviving, devoted half brother David Warren (Cheri) of Toronto. Margaret graduated in 1946 from the hospital of Sick Children School of Nursing as an RN. She was extremely proud of her profession and worked as head nurse on the orthopedic unit there. Margaret and Alan married in1951. They moved to Oshawa in 1954 where Alan had a successful career as a residential home developer. Together they had five children Marilyn, Barbara (Stephen Rawn), Debra, John (Christianne) and Anne. She was a devoted grandmother to Emily, Julia, Rory, Emma, Graeme, Anne, Alan, Alexandra, Alison, Rebecca, Henry, Ben, Hannah, Noah and great grandmother to Oliver and Cecilia and Jasper. She was a loving mother and grandmother who delighted in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Margaret was a passionate golfer and belonged to the Briar’s Golf Club, Jackson’s Point, Lake Simcoe where she was a summer resident for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Oshawa Golf & Country Club where she golfed and curled for years making many life long friends. Margaret was an active member of the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) in Oshawa for 50 years. In 2016, Margaret received recognition from the City Of Oshawa for her lifetime service work with the IODE. She was a keen duplicate bridge player, playing well into her eighties. Margaret loved the arts, especially theatre and music. Her family would like to thank her faithful friend Nora McCarney (who supported her over the decades) and many caregivers who brought happiness to mom in final years. We thought mom would carry on indefinitely but she will now remain in our hearts, minds and memories forever. Mom loved watching the birds. She always kept her bird feeders full or instructed others to do so. Rest in peace mom and fly with the eagles.
