WINIFREDE WARWICK ROGERS BURRY ‘Win’ Of Toronto, Ontario, age 87, passed away peacefully at home at Belmont House Retirement Residence on June 10, 2023 surrounded by family. Predeceased by husband C. James ‘Jamie’ Burry after 61 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Guy (‘daughter’ Liz Lundell), Don (Becky Franklin) and John, and dear ‘Neeny’ to Alex, Kate, Ellis (fiancée Sam Herman), and Owen Burry. Predeceased by much-loved sister Marianne. She will be missed by extended family – including sister Gay Rogers, nieces, nephews, and cousins – as well as many cherished friends. Win was born in 1935 in Toronto, Ontario, daughter of Mary and Guy Rogers. She attended Bishop Strachan School and graduated from nursing in 1957 from the Hospital for Sick Children. For seven years, starting in 1970, Win enjoyed her role as Choir Mother at St. George’s College and on choir tours. Many happy times were spent with her numerous friends, including quilting colleagues. Win lectured and participated in quilt shows across Ontario. She also attended and exhibited her inspired textile art and received many awards at numerous international exhibitions hosted in Houston, Texas; Boulder, Colorado; Portland, Oregon; Tavistock, UK; Heidelberg, Germany; Odense, Denmark; and The Hague, Netherlands, where she was presented the Judge’s Commendation Award. Win had a love of gardening and kept beautiful beds at the family homes in Lawrence Park as well as at Midloch Farm north of Port Hope. An avid reader and persistent learner, Win delighted her family and friends with her candour and offbeat sense of humour. The family is grateful to all of the staff at Belmont House, Dr. Wainberg, and Win’s dedicated caregivers.
