It is with sadness that we announce the passing of June Winnifred (Crowhurst) Macdonald. She died quietly at her home near Mount Forest on Sunday, March 16, 2024, surrounded by her family. Wife of Dr. James Macdonald. Mother of Andrew Macdonald (Kim), and Mary Joy Macdonald (Ian). Grandmother of Alaina Macdonald (Alvaro), and Eric Macdonald (Lauren). Remembered by her niece, Jenny Crowhurst (Ladi), and their children, Mija and Niko; and by her nephew Kevin, Crowhurst (Kelly), and their children, Oliver and James. June was predeceased by her son, Peter Macdonald; brothers, Graham Crowhurst and David Crowhurst; and by her parents, Albert and Etta (Collins) Crowhurst. Raised in the Mimico area, June trained as a Registered Nurse at The Hospital for Sick Children, where she also worked after her graduation in 1957. When her family moved to the Cambridge area, she served many vital roles in the YWCA, and was recognized as one of the 50 most influential women in the history of their Cambridge chapter. In Harriston, her many contributions through her church (Knox-Calvin Presbyterian) included work in refugee settlement and food security. In Minto Township, June is recognized for Heritage preservation and land conservancy. Forward-thinking, dedicated to community and family, and above all gracious and kind, she will be missed by many. The Celebration of June’s Life will be held at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Minto Refugee Settlement Committee, or Plan International Canada would be appreciated and may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
